Childs Road Upgrade
The Childs Road Upgrade includes a new bridge over Darebin Creek, strengthening an existing bridge, an additional lane in each direction, intersection upgrades and converting a roundabout to a signalised intersection. The project included urban design to provide a public space connecting the community to the creek with architectural and Aboriginal art features.
What we did
The Childs Road Upgrade includes a new bridge over Darebin Creek, an additional lane in each direction as well as intersection upgrades and the conversion of a roundabout to a signalised intersection.
During Development Phase, pitt&sherry undertook a review of the initial design, developed preliminary design drawings, and provided a design report and an urban design report. The design team worked closely with the Contractor to identify risks and provide sufficient design information for construction pricing and methodology.
During Delivery Phase, our team successfully delivered the Detailed Design and IFC. This included the design of a 750m road duplication, new bridge and strengthening of the existing bridge over Darebin Creek plus intersection upgrades and shared user paths.
We also designed new street lighting, road signage and line marketing, utility relocations and urban design.
The design process included engagement with Melbourne Water for the hydrology assessment, Safety in Design, Risk, Constructability and Sustainability workshops, and Temporary Works Design.
