Our Project Goals

We're supporting South32 in the planning, design and construction stages for two new ventilation shafts to extend the mine life beyond 2040.

What we did

Scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility geotechnical and mining services for the two shafts. Provided specialist  geotechnical and shaft mining technical advice to the selection of a suitable location for the shafts and  appropriate excavation methodology for the diameter, depth and ground conditions.   Geotechnical investigations and assessments of subsurface conditions for shafts and shaft infrastructure.  (Subsurface investigations, factual and interpretive geotechnical assessments, design input to infrastructure design).

Design certification of shaft collars and lining for both shafts. This involved independent verification and design.

Project Outcomes

Project is under construction, with certification provided for VS8 collar and liner and work ongoing for VS7.
